Paint color is one of the most important decisions you will make when decorating your space.

In addition to support directly from the experienced project managers and sales staff at Colarossi Painting and Construction and digital assets from the Sherwin Williams website, here are a few more tips to assist you in choosing colors you will love to live with.

The following is a video including tips from Jackie Jordan, Director of Color Marketing at Sherwin-Williams. Jackie explains the effects of using lighter, darker and specific colors in your home or office.

She starts by asking what colors do you find yourself attracted to? Look at the clothing in your closet and the magazines you read, what colors do you see? Those could be some of the colors you are attracted to that may work in your home.

As per Jackie, “Red stimulates appetite and conversation. Green and blue are calming colors. Yellow sparks creativity. Orange is the equivalent of a double espresso. Brown equals stability and reliability. White helps illuminate a space.”

She offers some additional tips regarding to the size of your space. “If you want a small space to seem open and airy use a lighter color. Repetition of color will visually link spaces to create a sense of harmony. A darker wall color can set off light-colored objects in a room to create an instant focal point.”

Jackie explains when choosing colors to paint your home, take samples home with you. That way you can see how they look in different lights. For example, daytime light and nighttime light. Her advice is when choosing colors for your home keep in mind lighter colors on a color strip may appear even lighter when applied to your walls and vice versa for darker colors.
